About Me

Interview with South Asian Living

Interview with ???

Q. So Mahleej , what has inspired you to participate in Miss Pakistan World ?

I've always have been interested in acting and modeling, and also have worked in the Canadian Industry. So when I heard about the Miss Pakistan World Pageant, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to represent my country as well as represent women of today living abroad.

Q. What was your family's reaction to your decision to participate? Sara? Mahleej?

My Mother was really proud of me as she has always supported me in all my decisions. Some of my family wasn't too fond of it but now are learning more about the industry through me and are proud me as well.

Q. Do you feel that you have responsibilities to represent your community now that you both have titles? If so, whatk are those responsibilities?

Being Miss Pakistan World is a big responsibility, as you become a role model for other women out there. Whatever actions I take sends a message to the world. So I have to make sure that I'm always sending out a positive message. As I'm also required to represent Pakistan in international pagents, its my responsibility to represent my country with honour and respect.

Q. How do you relate to your Pakistani heritage? What is the one thing you love about your culture/s?

When I think of my heritage one word that immediately comes to my mind is "Family". Family and family values are very important in my heritage. After living in Canada for over a decade and being independent women of today I still hold my heritage of have a loving family and being strong.

One thing that I really love about our culture is the food. We are very hospitable and every time someone comes over gives me an excuse to cook for them.

Q. As Miss Pakistan World what are planning to do with your title?

I am planning to represent Pakistan in international pageants, and change the negativity people have for Pakistan. Also to send out a message to the young women that they can be whatever they want, just have to always think positive. Above all just represent my country with pride and honour.

Q. After finishing your terms, what do you have in store for the future?

To pursue my carrier in acting as well as try to work toward my Spa that I run now.

Q. Does Lollywood, Hollywood and Bollywood interest either of you?

If it's the right role I would definitely be up for it.

Q. Who are your role models? Why?

My role models are my grandmother, my mom and Ashwairia Roy. My grandmother was a very strong person and fought for her rights in her days. I love my mom for the same quality that she is very strong and if it wasn't for her I wouldn't be where I am now.

Ashwairia is one of those girls that proved that beauty queens and not only beautiful but they are very smart. Being the only bollywood actress working in the North American Industry is a big accomplishment for her, but what inspires me is she came along way since she won miss world.

Q. Mahleej, your main talent is acting and dancing- would you like to pursue a career in these talents?

Dancing is like soul to me whenever I need to relax or take out anger I just dance and I feel better, Its funny but I love doing it. Also I love to acting its like becoming a whole new person and I would definitely like to pursue a career in my talents.

Q. Pakistani girls are making their presence known and are trying to show the world that Pakistani culture can infiltrate into the mainstream.

What would you tell parents who hold their children back or disapprove of their daughters displaying their talent?

I would like to say that its 2007 women have even made it to the moon so why not Pakistani women. By holding their kids back from their talent is holding them back from making their life's dream. Communication and support are two keys and if you up bring your kids with those values, your kids will always prosper and so will they.

Q. Mahleej, what advice would you give for those who want to follow in your footsteps?

Never give up and always think positive and positive things will happen to you. Always have goals and if you work had toward it they'll come true.

Q. What is the single most important lesson you have learned from participating in these pageants?

Every pageant I've participated in, winning or loosing, I've never walked out empty handed. I always take the experience and bunch of amazing friends you make along the way.

Q. Mahleej, what is your favourite cuisine? Do you also enjoy cooking?

My favourite is Pakistani food because of the spices and herbs. I love to cook, as I was in my teens my grandma and my aunts as well as my mom thought me. Under their training I learned a lot and can cook anything now that I desire. I also love Italian, Greek, Chinese and other cuisines as well.
